MISSOURI TRAVEL
COUNCIL LEGISLATIVE REPORT
The Missouri House
has passed legislation that extends the
sunset date from 2010 to 2015 for the
Tourism Supplemental Revenue Fund.
Sponsored by Rep. B. J. Marsh of
Springfield, the legislation (HB 205)
now goes to the Senate.
The Missouri
Senate has given preliminary approval to
legislation (SB 64) that changes the
state's school opening law. Sponsored by
Sen. Jack Goodman, the legislation would
allow schools to start classes up to ten
days before Labor Day. A school district
may set an opening date that is more
than ten calendar days prior to Labor
Day provided that the local board holds
a public meeting to discuss the proposal
of starting school on an earlier date,
and a majority of the board votes at the
public meeting to allow the earlier
date.
The Missouri House
Budget Committee has gone through its
first round of review of the proposed
Department of Economic Development
budget with the Division of Tourism's
$20.8 million budget unchanged. The
committee will make its final decision
this coming week and send the proposed
budget to the full House.
After next week,
the legislature will take a week off for
spring break.
