COMMITTEE CHAIRS NAMED

House Speaker Rod Jetton this week announced House committee chairmen for the 2005 legislative session. Rep. B. J. Marsh of Springfield remains as the House Tourism Committee chairman.

Rep. Brad Lager of Maryville is the new House Budget Committee Chairman and Rep. Lanie Black remains as the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee for Economic Development.

In the Senate, Sen. John Griesheimer of Washington is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism. Sen. Chuck Gross of St. Charles is the new Senate Appropriations Committee chairman.

Committee action should get underway in full force this coming week.

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION HEARING  

The Senate Small Business Committee this week completed hearings on SB 1, which reforms the workers’ compensation program. Among other things, the bill more narrowly defines an injury in the workplace and increases penalties for fraud.
