INAUGURATION
OF GOVERNOR BLUNT
Governor
Matt Blunt was sworn in January 10
as the new governor. The governor
is expected to make his
legislative and budget address to
the General Assembly on January
25.
COMMITTEE
ASSIGNMENTS
The
House Speaker has not officially
announced his committee
assignments yet. Senate committees
are set and the Senate
Appropriations Committee already
has begun hearing public testimony
on various state programs. The
Senate Tourism and Economic
Development Committee will hold an
organizational meeting at 3 pm
Wednesday in the Senate Lounge
under the direction of its
chairman, Sen. John Greishiemer.
WORKERS'
COMPENSATION LEGISLATION
A
House committee already has held a
public hearing on workers'
compensation reform legislation.
The bill would redefine an
injury in the workplace and
increase penalties for fraud in
the program. The legislation is
expected to be placed on a fast
track by the House and sent to the
Senate as quickly as possible.
